How to Provide Sterile Water in Dental Surgeries
The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a warning to dental practices use different water suppliers for cleaning equipment than the suppliers they use for drinking water. It was also determined that the cause of unhealthy water is because of the supply line from the mains to the dentist chair. When the instruments are not in use water does not clear from the tubes thus is left to go off. As a consequence bacteria forms on the inside of the tube walls and is collected by clean water when the equipment is next used by the dentist. The risk of contaminated water washed into a patients mouth is potentially damaging. Organisms can cause all types of diseases especially to those with weakened immune systems.
Fortunately, sterilization equipment that protects surgeries against the spread of harmful bacteria will prevent patient complaints and is readily available from retailers specializing in dental equipment. Sterile tubes will keep water clean and saline from disposal bags are more effective for cleaning surgical tools and general equipment such as ultrasonic scalars.
Dental surgeries are also advised to use water filters that use chemicals to wash out water lines. Purpose made dental filters substantially reduce the amount of bacteria found in dental water. Filters fitted with anti-airlock panels also release trapped air so that all the water from the filters is drained out. There are waterline dental filters on the market that install quickly onto any dental equipment which includes high-speed hand pieces, ultrasonic scalars and air to water syringes.
Installing a reverse osmosis water filter for use in autoclaves and rinsing instruments will also help to ensure that water used in dental surgeries is properly sterilized.
